Know Where Your Coffee is Farmed

Coffee in Madagascar

Until the 1990's Madagascar was one of the world's largest coffee producers, until the sector collapsed due to global competition. Madagascar remains home to some of the finest, most unique arabica and robusta coffee varieties in the world. However, over the past 30-years, few people outside of Madagascar have ever enjoyed the aromas and flavor of Malagasy coffee....

Where We Work

Itasy is a highland region known for its rolling volcanic hills and cool microclimate. With elevations from 1,200 to 1,800 meters, it’s home to small Arabica farms. While coffee has been cultivated for decades, market instability has made it difficult for farmers to invest in quality. MCC is partnering directly with farmers to bring new life to old trees and introduce better post-harvest methods.

Amoron’i Mania is a blend of red clay hills, rocky escarpments, and fertile valleys. With elevations up to 1,600 meters, the region’s climate is ideal for Arabica, but coffee here has long been sold into the informal market. MCC is introducing traceability, training, and a stable market.

Haute Matsiatra has long been considered a historic coffee center in Madagascar. With elevation up to 2,000 meters, its misty forests and rugged terrain are ideal for Arabica. MCC works with farmers, where coffee has faded due to falling prices and poor infrastructure. We're helping reverse that trend.

Fitovinany is as wild as it is promising. A robusta-producing region, its fertile soil and regular rainfall give coffee a bold, clean profile. But its isolation—from missing bridges to impassable roads—makes it a challenge to access. MCC is building supply chains from the ground up.

Atsimo Atsinanana, a region with enormous untapped potential, is best known for cloves and vanilla—but tucked between coastal hills are small Robusta plots, often intercropped with fruit and spices. We’re changing that—introducing processing centers, farmer training, and fair contracts to kickstart the region’s coffee future.
